FTT Off-Topic: Daddy Issues

Two moments of political silliness today for your Crap, It's February And He's Still Writing file...

1) For reasons best left unexplained, I have a trial subscription to USA Today. For a buck a week and to help someone out, really. Anyway, as the nation's newspaper, it's pretty eye-opening in terms of how lowly the nation is, and how cowed the "liberal" media is. (Is it wrong to take delight in Oklahoma's snowstorms when they keep giving us Tom Coburn? Screw it, I'd rather be wrong.) The way that USA Today covers their anatomy? Months of coverage, and no, I am not kidding, months of coverage on the fact that Dead Ronald Reagan is now 100 years dead. No, seriously.

I get that the eulogizing is nice. I get that telling people who are humping the ghost of a lie demeans their relationship, and their life choices. Far be it for me to cast aspersions on their kink, really. Live and let live.

But, um, fellahs? When you are down naming everything possible after him, and airbrushing the historical record, and trying to one-up each other in the circle jerk of who lovey-doveys him most... He's still dead. And an incredibly mixed bag, what with the debt and scandals and death and homeless and so on and so on. Might want to look into a new toy. Living.

2) Rep. Christopher Lee, a Republican congressman from upstate New York who's been in a billion cheap British horror movies in the '60s befor he got picked to play Saruman in the Lord of the Rings trilogy -- what, not the same dude? Dammit!) quit his job I a huff today. OK, maybe a minute and a huff. The married man was trolling Craig's List and sending shirtless photos, which is just sad, really. Crotch shots, sir, crotch shots!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled blog, which will try to be about sports at least 2/3rds of the time, even in February...
