It's Gonna Happen

Yes it is Cubs fan. Yes it is.

That stupid slogan has been knocking around Chicago for 2 seasons now. Leave it to Cubs fans to pick a slogan that comes back to bite you in the ass. Brilliant. But if you call yourself a Cubs fans, you've pretty much publicly claimed you aren't a genius. And these stupid white flags with a blue W that have been flying around Chicago this year - won't miss seeing those either.

Full disclosure here - I'm a Cards fan. Have been since the early 80's when my family moved to St. Louis. I've seen some great Cards teams and some pretty lousy ones. But I've never seen Cardinals fans turn on their team like the Cubs fans turned on theirs last night. In fact, I'm pretty pissed off at Cubs nation right now. You took the pure joy and satisfaction that I receive watching the Cubs lose in the playoffs. My early Christmas disappeared as I started to feel bad for the Cubs players. But the sulking and whining by the Cubs fans brought on a cathartic moment. I realized I don't despise the Cubs. I despise their fans. Truly pathetic. Their self loathing, turn on their team in a moments notice, and general fear of anything good happening would make a Philly sports fan blush.

Cubs fan doesn't deserve a good team. Not from what I witnessed last night. And man, you should hear local talk radio in the Chicagoland area this morning. "What is Lou doing? Cubs are chokers. Why didn't they pitch Z in game 1? D Lee should be released. Sorianno blows. Why did the Cubs print up World Series tickets already?" Cry, bitch, moan. But it made me feel better hearing them complain. It's not a fitting end to a baseball season without Cubs fan crying about something.

And look, this series isn't over. The Cubs could still come back by winning three straight. But does anyone believe that is going to happen? And for all you young kids out there who are considering becoming a Cubs fan, here is a video that I hope scares you straight.

One Small Question to Cubs Fan...

and then I'll leave this topic alone to The Truth, who frankly owns this...

Is this somehow also Bartman's fault?

Six Random Observations from Cubs-DBacks Game 3

> There's cool, there's veteran cool, and then there's Might Actually Fall Asleep. Livan Hernandez is in the last part.

> Is it OK to hate Stephen Drew because of who his brother is? I feel like we should spell it Drue or something, to give him a chance.

> HD does Jason Kendall no favors. Let's just say the part where he shaves, he probably shouldn't.

> The Cubs have used six -- six! -- catchers this year. Let's just say that you might not have a great organization when this happens.

> The Cubs starting OF in this game was Soriano in left, Jones in center, and Floyd in right. That might be the worst defensive OF ever that didn't have the name Incaviglia in it.

> I like the water ad where a polite Lou Pinella gets run. Can we make more of those? "Hey, I just came out to say that I'm making a fantastic sum of money to coach a team of unlikable head cases. Can I stay out here for a while and pretend to argue with you, and then get ejected, so that I can avoid having to listen to Zambrano?"

I'm 0 for 8 and kinda hoping to be 0 for 12

Is anyone else hoping for four sweeps in the ALDS and NLDS, if only for the end of Frank TV commercials, and the crushing network hell of Arizona-Colorado instead of Chicago-Philadelphia?

Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy

Here we are Cubs fan, the end of the season and your team in first place by two games. Your magic number is 2 with 3 to play. The Cubs destiny is in their own hands. No wonder you're so nervous.

The Cubs should have put this away already but decided to drop 3 straight to the 90 loss Florida Marlins. The same Florida Marlins who took 6 out of 6 versus the Cubs this year. You think they're wishing they played in the Central division? And the fans in Chicago are getting antsy for some Cubs wins.

The good news is the Brewers have to play their last three against the Padres who are fighting for a playoff spot. The bad news is the Cubs still can blow their next three against the Reds. Come on Cubs, all you need to do is win 2 out of 3. No problem right? Wrong. This is the Cubs. Something will probably happen keeping them from reaching the playoffs.

I hope that isn't true. I'd much prefer to see the Cubs make the playoffs and then go down in flames. In a perfect world, they'd make it to the World Series and implode on a national stage. Plus, there's nothing worse than making it that far and losing. And I'm sure there are one or two jinxes left to catch up with the Cubs. I was delighted to see this story on Deadspin earlier in the week. Basically the story tells of how the Cubs have already sold and printed up World Series tickets. Always a good idea for a team like the Cubs to taunt fate. I mean, I know the ball club itself makes dumb moves but it must be contagious.

So Cub fans, hang in there. I'm sure nothing bad is going to happen this weekend. That will come later. In the meantime, enjoy this clip.
